My approach to therapy is collaborative and integrated, guided by each client’s unique needs, and draws upon humanistic, cognitive-behavioral , and narrative theories. I work with adolescents and adults from diverse backgrounds and have special interest and experience with generalized anxiety, panic, depression, AOD issues, relationship/family concerns, and adjustment issues. I have trained extensively in mindfulness-based approaches and am especially interested in the application of mindfulness in the treatment of anxiety and depression.  I accept many major insurance plans, including Medicaid/VHAP, BCBS, Magellan, MVP, Consolidated Health, and Aetna, and offer a sliding scale.

My approach to therapy utilizes multiple theoretical approaches depending on the needs and preferences of individual clients. I draw frequently on mindfulness-based approaches, narrative theory, feminist theory, and cognitive-behavioral concepts. I work with clients to address a wide variety of presenting problems, including mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, life transitions, identity, and women’s issues. I am trained in EMDR, also known as adaptive information processing, a treatment technique which can be very valuable in assisting clients to process difficult or traumatic experiences and address current symptoms. As a licensed alcohol and drug counselor I am experienced in working with clients who are making changes in their substance use, seeking ongoing recovery support, or coping with the impact of a loved one’s substance use. Currently I work with individuals age 14 and older and accept many major insurance plans.

I work with people when they are feeling overwhelmed, struggling through significant losses, or working through difficult periods in relationships. Some are contemplating spiritual or existential questions.  Others choose to work with me to help resolve depression or anxiety or other emotional factors that are interfering with overall wellbeing.
My clients experience relief from symptoms and stressors, and cultivate knowledge, insight, skills, and resilience in order to create lasting personal change. I will collaborate with you to fully identify and understand your concerns and together we will determine an approach, or combination of approaches, that seems most appropriate to your needs and goals.
I accept most major insurance plans. For those people without insurance or who choose not to use insurance I am willing to discuss affordable services on a “Sliding Scale” basis
